Yea, we got one! Our Hard Times Apple
Cider won a 3rd place at the 6th Annual Homebrewed Beer, Mead, and Cider
Competition at the Minnesota
Renaissance Festival. The competition was sponsored by the Minnesota
Home Brewers Association and Water
Tower Brewing in Eden Prairie. This was a Beer
Judge Certification Program (BJCP) sanctioned event. Our first competition,
our first cider, our first award! We also made it to the finals with our Brewberry
Blueberry Hefe-Weizen. Not too bad, we think!.
One great benefit to entering competitions: we get feedback on our efforts
from other beer lovers and brewers and trained (and often certified)
judges. Another benefit: you get to try different beers and such (some
wonderful beers, ciders, and meads at this event!). One other benefit to this
event: the entry fee was $10 ($8 if you're a member of MHBA)
and you got a ticket to the ren-fest (usually about $16!)
